New Trend: Fruit Centerpieces at Your Wedding

December 3rd, 2009

We have been perusing the blogs and a reoccurring theme is the incorporation of fruit in your wedding table centerpieces.  We like this unique idea and with the multiple colors that fruit can bring to your arrangement, they are an easy color match as well.  Feeling a little more adventurous? We’ve also seen vegetables such as eggplant and artichokes making a delightful appearance.  Below are a few samples of fruit centerpieces from Martha Stewart and Style Me Pretty.

The Coolest Thing I Have Ever Seen

March 13th, 2009

I was completely unaware of an ancient form of art called papercut - until last week. In this art form, shapes and motifs are cut out of rice paper totally by hand using a sharp knife and scissors. Easy you say? Just wait until you see the designs I’m referring to. We’re not talking about the paper heart you cut out of construction paper in kindergarten - these are extremely intricate. I saw on another blog that someone incorporated this art form into their reception decor, and thought it was absolutely brilliant. You can find PaperCutDieCut on Etsy and browse through 10 pages of things that will completely blow your mind. The detail is incredible. INCREDIBLE.

In the other blog entry, the writer used papercut numbers as table numbers. She put them in clear glass frames and backlit the frames with votive candles so the numbers cast a shadow. What a great idea! Where do people come up with these things?!

Fun, flirty wedding parasols

December 11th, 2008

Spring and summer weddings are coming up soon (believe it or not) and everyone needs a fun way to keep out of direct sunlight. Take a look at these floral parasols from ShopLoveMe. These ones are pink, green, and yellow floral and would add a touch of color to any wedding - but they are also available in other patterns and colors, should you choose. Give them to your guests as a favor, or to your bridal party to use during their long day in the sun outside. They would look so cute in your wedding pictures - either with the bride alone or with the ‘maids or moms. Or, use them in your decor - either hanging from the ceiling upside-down (I’ve seen it done and it does look pretty awesome) or elsewhere in your reception. Be creative!

NY Floral Frenzy

November 15th, 2008

There are so many florists that have amazing photo galleries… how does one ever decide which one to use? One way to start in your search is the find a picture of a bouquet that you really like, then take it with you when you meet with your prospective florist. They should be able to suggest alternative flowers that might be available and should be able to tell you all the colors each bloom will be available in. In the NY area, check out Alana Rose Designs. The bouquets are big, bright, and beautiful. The photo gallery is extensive and impressive as well.

Yes, you can have the regular ol’ bride and groom on top of your cake, but where’s the fun in that? You should definitely check out alternative cake toppers. Like these hand-stiched fabric birds from Cotton Bird Designs. I mean, seriously, what would be cuter?
