Planning a wedding that reflects your personality is an important part of the day. You will want to make sure the wedding reflects you and your fiance. You may think about adding in some traditions from around the world if certain customs are important to you as a couple. Here are some fun ideas from Wedding Star:
China: a fan is a symbol of happiness because it expands, suggesting a better and bigger future. Fans have been incorporated at Chinese themed weddings with bridesmaids carrying oriental fans instead of flowers.
Swedish: tradition says the couple will never go without if a bride places a silver coin from her father in her left shoe and a gold coin from her mother in her right shoe.
Spanish: grooms traditionally wear a tucked shirt that has been embroidered by the bride. Thirteen coins given to the bride by her groom symbolizes his ability to support and care for her. They are carried in a little purse by the bride during the ceremony.
Hawaii: the lei is the Hawaiian symbol of love. Grooms wear the fragrant maile lei entwined with pikake (white Jasmin) and ilima. During the ceremony the officiant binds the hands of the bride and groom with leis as a symbol of the couple’s commitment to each other.
Greek: The groom presents the bride with her bouquet at the wedding venue. Honey and walnuts are give to the bride and groom on a silver spoon. Walnuts break into four parts representing the bride, groom and the sets of family.
North America: deceased parents are often honored by lighting a special candle or adding a memorial pin to the bridal bouquet.
Japanese: brides wear a red and white kimono for luck, but change into several different outfits throughout the day. The celebrated kimono is making a comeback in modern way.
