Cherry Blossom Wedding Theme

November 30th, 2009

Wedding themes are a great way to add a personal flare to your wedding.  If you are looking for a theme for your summer wedding, you are not limited to starfish and sea shells!  Cherry blossoms make a great theme for a summer or late spring wedding.

When choosing a theme it is fun to carry the theme forward from the Save the Date, all the way through to the thank you notes.  Search the on New and Blue.com in the Search box for all kinds of ideas.  i.e. Search: Cherry Tree, Cherry Blossom, Butterfly, etc.

Asia has an old and mystical culture, which is why the upcoming wedding trend for today’s couple is towards the fusion of Asian culture with Western wedding.  Cherry blossoms often play an important part of Asian fusion weddings.

Asian fusion ideas include: paper parasols, shoji style paper lanterns, lucky bamboo plants in small, brightly-colored vases or bamboo stems in clear square glass vases.

Your guests might also enjoy the festive, cozy feel of hanging lanterns and silk fans!!

The cake can carry your cherry blossom theme to even greater heights by including cherry blossoms, lotus blossoms, orchids and dragonflies.

Bridal Shower Inspiration from Zac Posen, Checkerboard, and New and Blue!

November 28th, 2009

We thought we would help you busy brides by putting together an inspiration board for a garden party bridal shower.  Pull the event together with lively colors showcased in your invitation and floral decor and provide light fare for your guests like lemonade and tea sandwiches.  Send your guests home with something to remember the day by like these cute garden magnets or natural fans available at New and Blue. Lastly, look effortlessly chic in a summery dress and sandals.  Almost forgot- don’t forget about the games!  We like ”Bridal Shower Games” for its collection of 8 classics.

One Thing I Learned

November 27th, 2009

Having walked down the aisle, we can relate to the “One Thing I Learned” question posed to brides after their big day.  Below are some of our favorites from the Real Weddings section of past Martha Stewart Weddings and The Bride and Bloom Magazine for your to peruse.  Not all will apply to you but it is good food for thought…and after a day filled with lots of food, some thought sounds pretty good!

“Don’t be afraid to be different.  Instead of a classic cake, we chose several zabaglione-filled Italian cakes, and everyone loved them.”

“Ask your officiant to read well-wishes from those dearest to you during your ceremony.  It’s incredibly meaningful.”

“End the party on a high note by asking your band to save a few of their best songs for last.  Your guests will leave wanting more.”

”Your fiance should feel like he’s part of the planning.  Tim compiled our favorite New Orleans music onto CDs that served as welcome gifts.”

“Hire a wedding planner and spend as much time with your family as you can.” Read the rest of this entry »

Earth Friendly Wedding Ideas

Tree in a Box Wedding Favor

Are you looking for ways to have a classy, glamorous and environmentally conscious wedding?

Here are some things to think about:

  • A second hand wedding gown from a consignment shop is an extremely eco-friendly and budget-friendly choice.
  • Sustainable and or organic textile wedding gowns like vegan silk and silk/hemp.
  • Try to used vendors who buy locally and sustainably grown food, flowers, coffee, etc.
  • Look on New and Blue for ecological favor ideas such as Tree in a Box or Starfish Plantable Seed Place Cards.
  • Or in lieu of favors choose to donate to a worthy charity such as the Nature Conservancy or The Rainforest Action Network and notify the guests on pretty cards.

Rehearsal Dinner Attire- Romantic, Edgy, and Neutral!

November 21st, 2009

What to wear, what to wear?  It’s the age old question… Everybody has their own unique style and in this day and age there is no “proper” ensemble for a rehearsal dinner.  It’s important that you pick something that makes you feel beautiful, comfortable and is a reflection of your personality and personal style.  The people in attendance at your rehearsal dinner are the friends and family that know you best so if you veer on the alternative side, you may get a raised eyebrow or two if you showcase bubblegum pink chiffon.  Keeping this in mind, we came up with three very different rehearsal dinner outfit ideas; romantic, edgy, and neutral!

Rehearsal Dinner Attire

All dresses, Antropologie; silver floral headband, available at New and Blue; shoe, Nordstrom; black blazer, Forever 21; studded purse, Nordstrom; Pashmina, Pashmina Gifts; pearl earrings, availble at most jewelry shops.

We All Scream for Ice Cream!

November 20th, 2009

Ruby Jewel’s handmade ice cream sandwiches were the highlight of a recent trip to our local farmers market but can be the star of the show at your next event (or in your freezer).  Made from only the freshest, all-natural, all-good, all-northwest ingredients these little gems are delicious!  They are available in two sizes and a variety of tasty flavors, or they will customize a flavor just for you.  And yes, they ship anywhere in the USA.
