A Great Cause -Making Wedding Dreams Come True

July 16th, 2010

Wish Upon a Wedding is the World’s first nonprofit wedding wish granting organization. Wish Upon a Wedding provides weddings at destinations across the United States for individuals facing life-threatening illness.  This amazing organization is a chance for couples to enjoy a very special day, without any thoughts of existing health issues, while surrounded by their closest family and friends.

Wish Upon a Wedding officially launched in January of 2010, and currently has over a dozen chapters to serve Wish Applicants. The chapters service couples residing in or wishing to get married within 300 miles of any one of their chapter locations.

Please visit their website for more information if you would like to donate items or if you would like to be a part of their Wish Granting Team {or know someone who would}.

Wedding favors with a Cause

February 8th, 2010

Breast Cancer Favor Box

Are you trying to decide on a wedding favor that feels just right for your wedding?  A wedding favor from Kate Aspen’s in Favor of a Cure(tm) Pink Ribbon Collection might be just the way to go.  They donate 10% of the net proceeds from the sale of our Pink Ribbon favors to two national breast cancer charities.  You are thanking your guests and donating money to an important cause at the same time.

Another great way to go is, a charitable donation, in lieu of favors. It is a wonderful way of thanking guests for sharing in your special day.  Make your donation on JustGive.org and they will send you a personalized PDF that you can print for your wedding tables.

A JustGive Charity Certificate is also a wonderful way to thank people who participated in your wedding.  Gift Certificates can be redeemed to any of one million local and national charities.

If you are looking for an original location for your wedding, then you need to check out The Housing Works Bookstore in New York.  Not only is it a really cool place to get married, but every dollar of profit goes back into helping homeless people currently living with HIV/AIDS in the New York area.  The Works Catering is a high end caterer with a heart.  They will customize your menu with quality foods and amazing service and ensure that you have the wedding of your dreams.

Earth Friendly Wedding Ideas

Tree in a Box Wedding Favor

Are you looking for ways to have a classy, glamorous and environmentally conscious wedding?

Here are some things to think about:

  • A second hand wedding gown from a consignment shop is an extremely eco-friendly and budget-friendly choice.
  • Sustainable and or organic textile wedding gowns like vegan silk and silk/hemp.
  • Try to used vendors who buy locally and sustainably grown food, flowers, coffee, etc.
  • Look on New and Blue for ecological favor ideas such as Tree in a Box or Starfish Plantable Seed Place Cards.
  • Or in lieu of favors choose to donate to a worthy charity such as the Nature Conservancy or The Rainforest Action Network and notify the guests on pretty cards.

Giving Back

September 2nd, 2009

We recently read about a couple that is going to volunteer at an orphanage in Nepal for their honeymoon.  They travel a lot already and feel so lucky with the incredible year they are having leading up to their wedding, and want to give back.  You may volunteer already in your daily life so the thought of doing more of that on your honeymoon is not as relaxing has you had pictured.  Fear not, there are a lot of ways you can still give back if you are so inspired!  Read the rest of this entry »

Spring Cleaning! Give Your Old Dresses a New Home Through Donate My Dress.ORG

April 24th, 2009

How many times did you wear your bridesmaid dress?  Most of us wear them just once, and after that special day, they take up permanent residence in the back of our closets among mothballs and those other items that we can’t quite get the courage to be rid of.  Well, your barely worn bridesmaid, prom, and other formal dresses could very well make a high school girl in need feel like the belle of the ball.  Prom can be such a monumental moment for teens and many girls are unable to find affordable dresses to wear to this special occasion.  Organizations like donatemydress.org and The Glass Slipper Project help get your dresses to girls in need.  So, if your looking to do some spring cleaning, check the back of your closet and maybe you’ll find that your something old can be a teen’s something new!
