Create Your Perfect Wedding Color Combination!

April 22nd, 2009

Choosing your wedding color scheme is a pivotal decision which can help set a guideline for your other wedding decisions- think invitations, flowers, etc.  The wedding color palette influences the theme and mood of your wedding; from dress to decorations, color is a key! When I was perusing the web the other day I came across this great site that can help in creating your perfect wedding color combination.  The Palette Generator by Big Huge Labs creates a custom color palette based on a photograph.  I loved this photo of Sienna, Italy by Albert Hofmann and pictured is the corresponding color palette.  I think there are some gorgeous combinations for spring!

Adding Various Traditions and Customs to Your Wedding Day

April 15th, 2009

Adding various wedding traditions and customs to your wedding is a wonderful way to begin your new life together.  It is also an opportunity to share your family heritage with your guests while creating a day that is uniquely you.

Portland Wedding Photographer, Paul Rich Studio, has a post on his blog of a recent wedding where the couple not only wanted to honor their love for each other but also the Persian New Year.  The couple interwove various traditions and customs into their ceremony that made for a beautiful way to celebrate their marriage.  Visit Paul’s blog to read more about this post from April 3rd and see some fabulous photos from their wedding day.

Interview with a Pro: Wedding Photos

March 18th, 2009

I talked to professional wedding photographer extraordinaire, Jessica Hill, to get the inside scoop on engagement and wedding photography. She gave some great tips… so I’ll share!

Jessica Hill Photography

New and Blue: What should couples be looking for specifically when deciding on a wedding photographer?

Jessica Hill: Couples should look for someone that they feel a personal connection with. Obviously, you should love their work as well, but if you’re uncomfortable with the person photographing you the photos might reveal that.

NB:  What tips can you give about attire or makeup for the couple for their engagement photo shoot?

JH: I strongly discourage couples to wear patterns. If the couple sticks with solid colors the photos will stand out and look great! If you can get an outfit change in, I think it’s a great idea as well because it gives such a different look and variety. I usually recommend my clients wear jeans and t’s or sweaters for one look, and then switch it up half-way and change to a skirt or heels and for the guy, a dress shirt and tie. Moms like these too. J

NB: Are there any new photography styles or specific photo opportunities that you’re hearing about?

JH: Yes - all the time! Fusion is getting really big right now, which is the combination of photography and video. Also Boudoir photography is really hot right now. I call the Boudoir photos, Peek-a-Boo shoots and Read the rest of this entry »

A great pastel wedding…

January 8th, 2009

While looking through blogs on the web, I came across pictures from this couple’s wedding. Flint Photography in Salt Lake City took the photographs for Jared and Lexy’s wedding. I love the pastel color palette they used, and the retro touches throughout. I especially love the balloons with the long streamers coming down from the ceiling. Typically you don’t see balloons at a wedding, but I think this really looks great. If you want to see more pics from this wedding, you can see them here.

Climbing the ranks: Paparazzi Tonight

December 4th, 2008

Still loving the idea of a photobooth at your wedding reception? So are we! While we were at the Bravo Wedding Affair last week we met up with the gang at Paparazzi Tonight and had some fun posing in the photobooth on site. It’s a great way to get some fun shots at the reception, and a fun way to get people to let loose and have a blast! You never know what may show up in the pictures, but I promise you’ll have a great time looking through them afterward.

Great tip: there are many ways you can choose to use the photos after the reception. One way is to let guests take the pictures home with them and a wedding favor. Another is to collect the photos that are taken and assemble them into a fun photo album for you to look back on later. You could also make it a point to have each guest/couple have their pic taken, collect those photos, and send them back to the guests as a memento with a thank you note after your big day. They’ll surely enjoy a reminder of the fun they had at your reception along with your note of thanks.

Update: fliptography rocks

December 3rd, 2008

Remember about a week ago when I said the flipbook photo favors were a good idea? I change my vote: THEY ARE A GREAT IDEA! We went to the 4th Annual Oregon ABC Gala last night, and fliptography.net was there doin’ their thing for guest favors! We got some great shots in, had them made into a little flip book, then did it all over again for a second time. This is seriously a great idea - and I know for a fact that they are super fun to create. Check out fliptography.net for more details. I highly recommend this for your reception!

Looking for a fun gift for your groom?

October 8th, 2008

It’s been popping up everywhere recently: boudoir photography. We’re not talkin’ X-rated photos, but more PG-13 that might give the illusion of nudity. Boudoir photo shoots are hot right now - and a great present for you to give to your groom on your wedding day. Photographers such as Jessica Hill Photography here in Portland will even bind them in a super cute pocket-sized little album. We bet your groom will be stoked and he will have something to always remember what a hottie you are. Feeling a little shy? Don’t worry - you’re not the first to do this, and you can bring a friend along for support. We also recommend bringing a bottle of champagne to loosen up a bit. You can have your photographer choose a fun setting for you, or do it at your house, in a friend’s house, a swanky hotel room, or simply the photographer’s studio. If you are partaking in special beauty treatments or diets leading toward your special day, you might want to schedule the shoot closer to the end result. Don’t forget the props! Bring some cute lingerie, posh jewelry, hair accessories, slammin’ shoes, or any other props you might want. Costs vary, so ask your photographer.
